Personal health care has become a buzzword among all sections of the society and the market is now full of ayurvedic products that can be purchased without much hassle. Here in lies a catch. Just like misuse of ISI certificate claims, many companies are abusing the seal of government approval.
With the Indian ayurvedic products market size of INR 748.5 billion in 2023, which is expected to reach INR 3,207.6 billion by 2032, the market is swarmed with fake products and operators.
To warn public about its role and scope of operation, Union Ministry of Ayush @moayush has been issuing series of social media posts to educate the public. But, the Ministry of Ayush’s recent social media message is blunt and bit scary as it says that “it does not endorse or approve any products. Always check the claims before buying to safeguard your health and that of others. Let’s unite against misinformation and fight the fake!”
This is a clear warning that the public needs to be vigilant and not fall for fraudulent claims. We try to give you a picture of Ayush products market.
It is compulsory to have Drug License to sell ayurvedic medicine in India. It is AYUSH Retail License for selling Ayurvedic/Unani medicines in India.
All the manufacturers are required to take a license at the start from the State Drug Controlling Authority to run an Ayurvedic Store. Then a general legal business registration and a current account in a bank required to sell these kind of medicines.
